De La Rue implemented the first Digital Tax Stamp solution with the Federal Tax Authority in the United Arab Emirates in 2019, with similar schemes being implemented in Saudi Arabia, Oman, Qatar and Bahrain in the following years.
These solutions use a combination of physical tax stamps and directly printed pack codes to enable compliance with the WHO FCTC, Protocol to Eliminate Illicit Trade in Tobacco Products.
The presentation will share learnings from the implementation and operation of these schemes, with particular emphasis given to providing helpful advice for Tax and Customs Authorities considering how best to introduce a scheme for their country.
